Issue: 6: 9-23-16: 2016 Height of the Season Edition!

Volume: 5 Issue: 6 – August 23, 2016  – 2016 Height of the Season Edition!

North Jersey Running Enthusiasts,

Welcome to the 2016 Height of the Season Edition of What’s on track for North Jersey

Its safe to say that the road racing season is now in full swing! You might even say that we are in the Height of the Season!

If you haven’t had a chance to get out there and kick it, now is  definately the time!

You might visit Active, Eventbrite, RunSignUp or perhaps scour the event calendars of your local running club(s) or timer(s) looking for the right event/cause to run/support. No matter which way you turn prepare to be inundated with a smorgasbord of races and causes to choose from for the next several weeks. Again… we are in the height of the season!

So how to choose?

Perhaps you can only run on Sundays. That narrows it down some. Then again there might be a cause that is near and dear to your heart. If all else fails there’s always… “eeny meeny miny moe”! For now you’ll have to figure it out on your own… that is until Run America launches their preference filter later this year. As the WoTFNJ editorial team has been sworn to secrecy all we can say is this app is tailor made! Be sure to download it on your iPhone and Android device and watch as each new feature is introduced.

For the time being WoTFNJ is here to provide you the insight needed to get your race groove on… so lets get to it shall we!

The first weekend in October has the unique distinction of being one of the busiest of the year. There are at least 25+ events in North Jersey from Interstate 78 up on October 2nd and 3rd. One of the marquee “staple” events kicking off October is the Skylander Challenge offering a 5K and 10K for its participants/supporters.

10/2 SCCC Skylander Challenge 5K/10K Be sure to save the date for the 9th Annual Skylander 5 & 10K Challenge being held on Sunday, October 2, 2016 on the Sussex County Community College campus. These two (2) USATF-certified events include a challenging 10-kilometer race and 5-kilometer event. Walkers are welcome in the 5K event. Proceeds benefit the Sussex County Community College Foundation and student scholarships. Contact us at 973-300-2121 or email

10/9 Rose House 5K event is a 5K Walk/Run held on the campus of the County College of Morris. The course is certified by USA Track and Field and is open to all participants. The proceeds from the event will help support the residential and vocational programs of The Rose House, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of developmentally disabled adults.

10/9 LCPC Run Walk Cheer 5K will be held by the Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church . Run/Walk/Cheer is a competitive 5K open to runners and walkers of all ages, with a shorter (1 mile) family course for the younger participants. Childcare is available (infants through age four). The course begins and ends at Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church. Everyone is invited to a special worship service at 9 am in Center Court. The race will begin at 10:30 am. This year, net proceeds from the event will be donated to Hearts for Honduras, Interfaith Hospitality Network, and local Fire/EMS.

10/29 Newton Pride 5K Stride This fun community-inspired event will be run on a USATF certified course from Newton High School’s Parking Lot through the roads of United Methodist Communities (Bristol Glen) and back to Newton High School. The Newton Pride Foundation is thrilled to welcome Steve Petro Memorial Fund participants to our FUN RUN! Don your favorite costume, bask in your favorite alter – persona – It’s Halloween! Let’s make it a Costume Party as well. Walk or run, have some fun!
