Welcome to the 2016 Autumn Colors Edition of What’s on track for North Jersey .
As the temps fall and the colors turn the desire to get outside and run in this comfortable and picturesque setting increases. Many a runner has commented that they often get lost in their surroundings. This is the one of the best times of the year to pound the pavement!
Many of you may be targeting a marathon, perhaps New York while others are satisfied with their weekend long runs. There are those that meet up each and every weekend, you know who you are, to see that they still got it! Whatever motivates you to stay on track, get out there and do it!
That said, WoTFNJ is here again to provide you the information you need to get your running groove on… so let’s get to it shall we!
The first Sunday in November is reserved for the TCS NYC Marathon! For those that are headed to the City! Run Strong! For the rest of us its time to look toward Thanksgiving and the numerous Turkey Trots that have popped up all over North Jersey! But before we think about “Turkey Day” lets have a little fun, shall we. Wayne is starting a tradition of their own. The Wayne Valley Dance Team supporting St. Jude Children’s Hospital alongside their own endeavors has planned a Color Run at the township’s municipal complex for Sunday, November 6th! If you just want to have some fun with your friends and family and are not concerned about being timed this sounds like its going to be a vibrant affair… Can you say Facebook photos!?!?!?!

Looking forward to this weekend and next there are a number of events that will both lift you up and quite literally have you running for your life! Let’s take a look at what’s on track for the end of October, then November as we prepare for one of the greatest family friendly morning runs of the year, Thanksgiving Day!
10/22 The 5k Run for Completion is a partnership between the Passaic County Community College Foundation and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. For the past 40 years, thousands of PCCC students have directly benefitted from PCCC Foundation and the generosity of our donors. The PCCC Foundation is teaming up with Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, whose mission is to recognize academic achievement of college students and to provide opportunities for them to grow as scholars and leaders, to continue to support and to make a difference in the lives of PCCC students, helping them to ‘Dream Big. Achieve More. Give Back.” Be sure to make your way to Eastside Park and kick this 5K with the Passiac County Community College!
10/29 New Milford Education Foundation’s 4th Annual 10K/5K Grand Prix Join the New Milford Education Foundation for their premier fundraising event. Both the 10k Race (Main Event) and 5K Run/Walk are USA Track & Field Sanctioned & Certified in addition to participating in the New Balance Grand Prix of New Jersey. Both courses are flat & fast course and traverse through New Milford, a scenic and picturesque Bergen County suburban community. All proceeds collected by the NMEF Road Runners Club will go towards funding grants that will enhance the education of New Milford school age children.
10/29 Newton Pride Halloween Fun Run 5K is a community-inspired event will be run on a USATF certified course from Newton High School’s Parking Lot through the roads of United Methodist Communities (Bristol Glen) and back to Newton High School. The Newton Pride Foundation is thrilled to welcome Steve Petro Memorial Fund participants to our FUN RUN! Don your favorite costume, bask in your favorite alter – persona – It’s Halloween! Let’s make it a Costume Party as well. Walk or run, have some fun!
10/30 Halloween 3.1 – 5K to Scare Hunger Away Calling all runners! We’re excited to announce our second annual Halloween 5K to Scare Hunger Away. The race will be held on Sunday, October 30 at the Garret Mountain Reservation (Woodland Park, NJ) and will feature Trick or Treat stations, a costume contest, a certified course, and a Kids Fun Run. All ages are welcome so we hope you’ll join the excitement! To register for the event or to learn more, visit the race website. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to CUMAC. Come Thanksgiving morning our North Jersey Spartans will engage and run their 10th Annual Krogh’s Turkey Trot. It’s the Tradition before the Tradition! It’s also the 5th largest turkey trot in NJ so if you are thinking bigger is better you just might be right. Garden State Runs has voted the Krogh’s Turkey Trot the #1 Thanksgiving Day Run in NJ! Registration is open now so get your morning run in before the feast ensues!
If Sparta is a tad bit outside of your driving radius there are two, no you are not seeing double, Bergen County-based Racefaster Thanksgiving Day Runs to satisfy any appetite. The first is in Glen Rock (moved from Ridgewood) at Veterans park sharing the Tribute Run course while the second is in Fort Lee and will utilize the Run the Palisades course. Need a local place to celebrate Thanksgiving Morning while enjoying a little of exercise! Racefaster has you covered! If, by chance, you wont be around Thanksgiving Day and want some of that North JErsey Thanksgiving Spirit be sure to checkout the St Peters Turkey Trok, Saturday, November 19th!
Race Directors! Event Promoters! Runners! You know Tristate Timing is continually looking to place its Events brochure holders wherever they can throughout North Jersey! Currently brochure holders are available at the Sneakerfactory in Florham Park and at the Paramus Road Runner Sports. Tristate Timing is now looking to increase event exposure through its Facebook Page! Please give it a view, a Like, Write a Review, a Share to ensure you, your friends and family are notified of What’s on Track… 😉
For those that have not heard the news there is an up and coming mobile app in the Apple Appstore and Google Play. The Run America app is your one stop for everything “running”. Here you can refine, register and record (coming soon!) your events . Any event that requires you to “move your feet” will be in Run America at some point soon (that is unless the event chooses not to???). Every walk, run, across all known terrains is destined for Run America. Run America is presently working to integrate all multisport, adventure, color and novelty runs too! The idea behind RunAmerica is simple. Provide an app that can filter through any type of event provided a strong profile of preferences. The current version of Run America brings together all the RunSignUp and Active events in one interface. The rest will soon follow with it enhancements to the event filtering that will show you what you want to see exactly when… you need to see it!

Many of those that read this newsletter frequent the various timer schedules in the area to see what’s on track. Tristate Timing’s Local Event Calendar and the Tristate Timing Event calendar are often updated to keep you informed. If you are in North Jersey you’ll find a number of the local events throughout the area on these two calendars. Definately one to bookmark on your mobile device and check often when that running itch needs some scratching!!!
