Welcome to the 2016 Hot Summer Nights Edition of What’s on track for North Jersey 

Question? Who turned up the heat??? Do some really “like it hot”? When going for “a run” um-… probably not. 

Feel like the alarm clock was the enemy before!?!? How about now? Lol! Don’t despair…. when the warmer weather sets in so does night racing. Be sure to check out the numerous events that will keep you running in the cooler (sometimes only slightly… sorry) night-time air. 

That being said, this issue will focus on the running “night” scene. So let’s see what’s on track!

6/5 Thomas Kitchen Memorial Fund – Thomas R. Kitchen Jr. Memorial Fund was founded to promote leadership, athleticism and to fulfill the needs of Hackettstown High School and community and to support and raise awareness for Cholangiocarcinoma, while honoring the man is which the fund is named. 6/8 5K Race to Wellness (night race) is presented by the Somerset County Wellness Committee (SCWC). The SCWC and EmPoWER Somerset are pleased to host the 3rd Annual 5K Race to Wellness and 1 Mile Fun Walk. Both events will take place on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at Skillman Park in Skillman, NJ. The 5K Race will begin at 7pm followed by the Fun Walk at 7:05 PM.

6/11 Run for Ryan Come support the Fourth Annual Run for Ryan 5k to remember Ryan James Cameron. The event will benefit the National Park Service and ShopRite Partners In Caring®. Additional detail on this event can be found on the Run for Ryan website.

6/14 5 Alarm 5K (night race) Please join the Professional Firefighters Association of New Jersey on Tuesday evening, June 14, 2016 for the Third Annual 5 Alarm 5K to raise support and awareness of the Burn Center at Saint Barnabas. Registration begins at 4:30 PM adjacent Mcloone’s on the Asbury Park Boardway. Runners and walkers will enjoy a double looped USATF-certified course, NJ14519JHP that is both fast and flat. Clocks will be posted at miles one and two along with two water stations. The 5K will conclude with a spectacular boardwalk finish!!!


6/18 2nd Annual West Brook School PTA’s Bobcat Chase will be held by the Westbrook School PTA. This fundraising event consists of a team of educators and parents that come together to promote fitness for their children, while raising money to support the local Elementary School. 

6/25 Bergen County Irish Festival 5k Registration Of Irish heritage? … then this event has your name written all over it! Be sure to check out the festival website for all the details.

6/28 Frantic Fun Run 5K and 1-Mile Fitness Walk/Run (night race) hosted by the Morris County Park Commission. Race through history provided this rare opportunity to run through the heart of Fosterfields Living Historical Farm in Morris Township. The event will be held on Tuesday evening, June 28. The event is now chip timed! This 5K is open to runners of all skill levels. If a 5K is not for you then try the 1-Mile Fitness Walk/Run. The first 200 participants receive a performance t-shirt, and there will be awards for the 5K race. Enjoy the farm, music, giveaways and refreshments.


7/4 9/11 Tribute Run to support G.R.A.C.E. The Glen Rock Assistance Council and Endowment is a 501(c)3 non-profit that was established by residents in Glen Rock shortly after September 11, 2001 to provide assistance to family members of those who died in the terrorist attacks. Through the efforts of G.R.A.C.E., a memorial was erected in Veterans’ Park to honor the lives lost that tragic day. The Tribute Run/Walk began in 2003 as yet another way to remember our deceased loved ones. Net proceeds of the event benefit the G.R.A.C.E. fund and are used to maintain the memorial. Also, a yearly scholarship is awarded to a Glen Rock High School senior in memory of Glen Rock’s eleven victims.

7/17 White Meadow Lake Community 5K Is this the toughest 5K in New Jersey? You decide! Nough said!


8/20 Casa Superhero 4M & Family Fun Run Hundreds of caring people of all ages and backgrounds will come together for the 3rd year to run and walk as a league of superheroes – to help make a difference in the lives of abused and neglected children. All children need heroes but abused children need superheroes. Enjoy entertainment, refreshments and fun for the whole family, but most of all fun! Garret Mountain Reservation is a USATF Certified 4 Mile course, which accommodates all levels of expertise. Prizes will be awarded for runners from various age categories (see below) as well as for best Superhero costumes- adult, child and teams! Race t-shirt promised to first 125 runners who register!!! 

8/20 All Cancers Sucks Color Run Enjoy Summer throws of color, water misters, multiple water stops music on course and a fellowship of runner and walkers. Come recognize to those who are and have struggled with cancer and help us dedicate this race to the celebration of life.

8/27 SSG Jorge Oliveira Memorial Run SSG Jorge Oliveira was killed in action on October 19, 2011 during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. SSG Jorge Oliveira was not only a soldier, he was an Essex County Sheriff, serving his country in many ways. Please come out to assist in supporting/celebrating his lives work!

Race Directors! Event Promoters! Runners! You know Tristate Timing is continually looking to place its Events brochure holders wherever they can around North Jersey! Currently brochure holders are available at the Ridgewood Racefaster store, the Sneakerfactory in Florham Park and at the Paramus Road Runner Sports. Tristate Timing is now looking to increase event exposure through its Facebook Page! Please give it a view, a Like, a Share to ensure you, your friends and family are notified of What’s on Track… 😉

If you are in North Jersey you’ll find a number of the local events throughout the area on these two calendars. Definately one to bookmark on your mobile device and check often when that running itch needs some scratching!!!
