In a nutshell… What the heck is going on?!?!?!? Awesome “running” weather has made its way across North Jersey AND a absolute ton of local events have come back, popped up and are headed (y)our way! The race calendar has quite literally runneth over. This is the time of year “we” runners look forward to. With so many races to choose from which one should you run? That’s were Wot4NJ comes in handy. We’ve gathered up as much info on the local events we know about and share those details each and every month with you.

5/7 Mary Therese Rose Fund 5K Run/Walk – Come run on behalf of Mary Therese Rose Crilly, reclaiming the joys of childhood all while supporting Joubert Syndrome research. If you’d like to know more about the Mary Therese Rose Fund please visit their website.

5/7 O.S.C.A.R. 5K-9 Run & 1K Fido Fun Run – One Step Closer Animal Rescue (O.S.C.A.R.) in Sparta, New Jersey, is a non-profit rescue organization that saves dogs and cats from desperate situations. They rescue pets from overcrowded shelters where animals are euthanized due to lack of space. O.S.C.A.R. volunteers care for these pets in their network of foster homes where they receive the loving care they deserve. They ensure that all pets in their care receive the proper veterinary attention and vaccinations, and that the animals are spayed/neutered. All of O.S.C.A.R.’s dogs and cats are great animals that deserve loving homes. Just check out the One Step Closer Animal Rescue and they’ll see you on race day!

5/7 Ringwood Educational Foundation – Shepherd Lake 5K – The Ringwood Educational Foundation is proud to present its 15th annual 5K Run and 1 Mile Family Fitness Walk at beautiful Shepherd Lake in Ringwood, NJ. The race begins in front of the 74-acre lake and continues through the parks into Skylands Manor Botanical Gardens. The race course goes past the manor house originally built in the 1920s. May is a wonderful time of year to take advantage of the spectacular elegance of the gardens and haven of the woods. All money raised by REF for this event is used to support their mission which is to enhance and enrich the public educational experience of Ringwood students.

5/14 Upper Saddle River Education Foundation 5KPlease join the 3rd Annual USREF Rock N’ Roll Run for Education! It is sure to be an amazing morning full of great music and activities.. not to mention the fast USATF certified Grand Prix (500pts) course.  this year the USREF is very excited to introduce a new Kids Obstacle Color Race for grades K-5, complementing 5K! This a terrific community event to be a part of and will help raise money for our Upper Saddle River Schools! Be sure to come out and show your support!


5/14 Marshall Hill PTA “Eagles” 5K –  The Marshall Hill PTA (MHPTA) will be hosting its 2nd Annual Eagles 5K Race and 1-Mile Family Fun Run/Walk at Wawayanda State Park.  All proceeds from this event will go to Marshall Hill PTA. The Marshall Hill PTA is a 501(C)3 non-profit organization that was created to enhance the quality of our children’s education at Marshall Hill Elementary School by funding school programs that might otherwise remain beyond the reach of a hard-stretched school budget. The Marshall Hill PTA is successful in our endeavors through the combined efforts of families, friends and business leaders such as you. Through these donations, events and partnerships, we are able to assist the students who are our leaders of tomorrow.

5/15 MRCC Trail Conference 5KThis 2nd Annual 5K event, held at the restore Darlington Schoolhouse, will benefit both the MRCC and the New York/New Jersey Trail Conference.  The Trail Conference was responsible for the  Schoolhouse’s restoration (built in 1891) as well as the maintenance of 2,125 miles of public trails in nearly 100 parks and 22 counties throughout the metropolitan area. The 5K will start at the Schoolhouse where this relatively flat 3.1 mile course featuring the scenic Ramapo Reservation and River, the beautiful Hunt & Polo Club neighborhood, and Ramapo College’s historic Havemeyer house will follow a combination of paved roads, wide wood roads and maintained grass and dirt trails before returning to the finish line at the Darlington Schoolhouse where food, an awards ceremony, and Schoolhouse tours await! Participants will park in the Ramapo College parking lot-Lot D.

5/15 Parents for Exceptional Children 5K- Parents for Exceptional Children (PEC) supports the special needs community & their families. The mission of the Bernards PEC is to provide the support that families, educators, and community organizations need to help individuals with disabilities reach their full potential. PEC also strives to create an environment of understanding and acceptance for persons with disabilities within the community.

5/15 Strides for H.O.P.E 5K Run/Walk  – Please join the Saint Barnabas Medical Center Foundation for the 4th Annual Strides for H.O.P.E. 5K Run and 2K Family Walk to raise support and awareness for children with epilepsy cared for at Saint Barnabas Medical Center.  Help them Overcome Pediatric Epilepsy! The 5K and 2K Family Walk begins at 10:00 AM at the Livingston High School Oval.  Runners and walkers will enjoy a USATF-certified course that offers quick and flat sections with a few inclines. Timers at miles one and two, water stations, and a clock finish are featured. Kids’ sprints are open to children 12 years and younger, exciting door prizes, including an iPad Mini will be awarded, and family-friendly entertainment and refreshments will be on-hand.  Race shirts are guaranteed to pre-registrants and while supplies last, on event day.

5/21 Lafayette PTO’s Tiger Chase – The Lafayette Township Elementary School’s PTO will host its 2nd Annual Tiger Chase 5K, 10K (added this year) and kids fun run. This event has something for everyone: a challenging 10K, an out and back 5K and a kids fun run for grades 3 and under.  Located in rural Sussex County the closed course will pass peaceful farmlands and a Heron Preserve. 5K and 10K will have $$$ CASH $$$ prizes for overall top finishers. Raffles prizes will be given away to the 5K and 10K finishers. All proceeds go directly back to the Lafayette Elementary School. More information please click Tigerc Chase event logo below.


5/21 Caldwell West Caldwell Education Foundation 5K – The Caldwell-West Caldwell Education Foundation (CWCEF) is excited to announce its Second Annual Run for Education 5K on Saturday, May 21, 2016.  Due to the overwhelming support from their participants and community last year, they have decided to make this an annual 5K. This event will once again be a fully sanctioned USATF-NJ Certified 500pt Grand Prix with start & finish line timing.  Their route, event and all of the details will be the same as last year.

While the event had close to seven hundred (700) runners last year, this year the CWCEF is looking to break 1000!  Please consider coming out and supporting them again.  Whether you are a competitive runner or someone who just wants to have fun, this event is for you.  The CWCEF encourages all of their families and students to come out and participate.  Even if you are not a runner you are invited to register to walk.  The event is geared toward all levels, including children.

A free continental breakfast including bagels, fruit, coffee, water and snacks will be served.  Jersey Mike’s will also be onsite handing out free subs. All children who cross the finish line will receive a participation medal.  The event will have award medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd male/female winners in five (5) year age groups (10 and under through 100!), as well as top 2 overall winners male/female.  Race day packets will be filled with lots of free giveaways, including a Complimentary Haircut by David Chad Salon in Caldwell, a free Italian Ice from Gelotti’s and many more!!

5/22 Safe Kids Day 5k Run/Walk –  Honeywell partners with Safe Kids Worldwide to host a 5K Run/Walk and a 1 mile Family Walk on Sunday, May 22, at 9 a.m., at the new Morris Plains campus located at 115 Tabor Road. This year the race committee is expanding the event to create a fun and exciting Safe Kids Day festival for Honeywell employees, their families, community members and partners. Runners, walkers, family and friends can enjoy a day of games and other activities designed to raise awareness about child safety and the many tools and resources available to prevent injuries at home. The 5K Run/Walk is also virtual, meaning this race can be run at any location. Virtual participants can walk, use the treadmill or run outside during their free time. Proceeds will benefit local programs of Safe Kids Worldwide.


5/22 Race Against Hunger 5K Run/Walk – This is a brand new event! The Race Against Hunger is a 5k Walk/Run that utilizies the infamous Duke Island USATF certified 5K course. All proceeds will go towards the non-profit organization Action Against Hunger. Competitive runners have the option to be officially timed for a fee of $27. The Event will take place from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm. The race will start at 11:00 am and end at 12:00 pm. Awards Ceremony, raffle and interactive displays about the global hunger crisis will take place from 12:30 to 1:30pm. Postrace refreshments and drinks will be offered.

Race Directors! Event Promoters! Runners! You know Tristate Timing is continually looking to place its Events brochure holders wherever they can around North Jersey! Currently brochure holders are available at the Ridgewood Racefaster store, the Sneakerfactory in Florham Park and at the Paramus Road Runner Sports.
